This calendar celebrates my visits to Florence over more than fifty years. Florence had a long history as an independent, democratic republic, a home of independent critical thinking, and of revolutionary art and literature. We like to call that the Renaissance; I see it as a salute to the free human spirit.
In light of Florence’s contribution to human culture and in light of the role that Harvard University played in getting me there, I will be donating 50% of the proceeds from the sale of this calendar to the fund raising effort Crimson Courage.
Also, in solidarity, I will redirect that 50% to any of the universities that have joined Harvard’s suit to resist government interference in what or how it teaches. A list, perhaps not complete, is below.
