Robert Manz has been making photographs since 1967; he
received his basic training at the Harvard Crimson,
where he was a photo editor.
He is active at the Cataumet Arts Center and is a member of the
Falmouth Artist's Guild, the Cape Cod Art Association and the Hungarian
House of Photography at Mai Mano, Budapest.
In his work, he seeks to engage in an intimate exploration of the
precious qualities of the land and its people.
He works with 35mm film cameras, scanning the positive or negative
images, and printing them on water color paper using high resolution
inkjet with archival pigment inks. Recently he has been developing ways
to use varnishes as a means of protecting his prints, and of presenting
them without glass.
He teaches courses on practicing photography as an art form at Cataumet
Arts Center, Falmouth Artists Guild, and the Cape Cod Art Association.

Statement
The land, and the people in it, are precious….any land, any
people.
In
my images I try to appreciate and reveal this. I do not think of the
images as documents, but as revelations.
Each
image attempts to look beyond the surface and to reveal something
about the preciousness of the land and its people.
I
grew up in Lima, Pennsylvania. Currently I live on Cape Cod and in
Budapest.
